REVIEW OF NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Our November meeting will feature our president, Jamie Lee, and our director of support, reporting on PFLAG’S 30th anniversary national conference which they both attended October 22-24 in Salt Lake City, Utah. A wealth of workshop and plenary sessions were presented addressing topics key to ongoing PFLAG work. A review of the conference will be presented, plus information about an exciting advertising PFLAG campaign, including celebrities, that will be launched nationally.

This is always a very interesting and informative time of sharing, so bring your loved ones and join us on Sunday, November 14th at 3pm, at our regular meeting place, Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. room 307.

We’ll look forward to seeing you there.

From Our President

Hello all. Many of you are aware that our oldest son, Andy, was recently engaged to be married to a beautiful young woman from St. Louis. While we are all ecstatic that Andy can participate in all of the rights and responsibilities of marriage, we are fully aware that our gay son does not have these same privileges. Like many in the LGBT community, John is waiting for the day when he too will be able to make a proposal of marriage. (He adds that being "the gay uncle" will also be great fun).

When I first started attending PFLAG meetings it was for me --- to find out as much information as possible in the shortest amount of time. I soon realized that I kept coming because the support PFLAG offers the gay community is an incredible thing. Now? Now I come to the meetings, I speak whenever the invitation presents itself, I love on the kids at the local high school, I carry signs and write letters about equality for all because…..It's simply the right thing to do.

O.K., for many of you in the "movement" this epiphany came to you long ago. For others, like myself, our activist clock has ticked a little slower. Doing the right thing often has its price -- sometimes monetarily and oft times emotionally, but for me it has and always will be--worth it. See you at the next rally !!!

Proud PFLAG mom,
Jamie
