From Our President

Hello everyone!

By the time you read this, Jamie and Richard Lee will have reached their destination of Montgomery Texas . They will be missed greatly. Thanks to everyone who participated in the reception last month to honor Jamie and Richard. A great time was had by all!

I would like to congratulate Carolyn Finken-Dove and Glen Dove who were elected as Co-Vice Presidents by the Board of Directors.

This is a busy time of year for the LGBT community in Kansas City . AIDS Walk happened April 26, the annual Midwest Alternative Family Alliance picnic is May 4, the LGCC annual picnic is May 18, Gay Pride festival is May 31 and June 1, and Black Gay pride is in August.

If anyone is interested in participating in any of these events, please contact me or any Board member.

Since being elected as President, I have given much thought to the Treasurer’s position. While I don’t mind performing these duties, I believe that holding both positions does not leave a positive impression to the local community as a whole and does not allow for appropriate separation of duties. All Board positions will be up for election in September, including this one if appointed sooner.

I hope to see you at the Mother’s Day potluck luncheon.

Randy Fowler

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This month all Mothers are reflective of their own Mothers and their Children. My Mom passed away in 2005, and I think of her on Mother’s day, but mostly I have learned to count my blessings. This is a picture of my daughter Jazz who is 18 now, and I a few years ago. My son Joel is 21 now so my kids are grown. I am so lucky to be able to say how close I am to my kids. In my house there is me, my husband George, Joel, Jazz and her girlfriend Michelle. So there is diversity in my house hold. But I always wondered what it would be like to have a third child and that is the way I feel about Michelle. This is one Mother that, indeed, knows how to count her blessings.

Happy Mother’s day to all!
Sandi Archer
