Articles From Our October, 2008 Newsletter

Program

Hello to all!

Its October already. Where did the summer go? It is time for pumpkins and ghosties and things that go bump in the night. Hopefully the cooler weather will bring everyone out for our October PFLAG/KC meeting. We are pleased to have back the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project (KCAVP)  to speak to us again.

The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project (KCAVP) serves LGBT victims of violence including domestic violence, sexual assault, and hate crimes.  KCAVP is the only organization in western Missouri and eastern Kansas that provides services to LGBT folks who have experienced violence.  KCAVP has two programs.  The first, the direct services program, offers advocacy, support, referrals, counseling, and emergency assistance to the people KCAVP works with.  The other program, the outreach and education program, reaches out and offers trainings and information to the community at large about LGBT violence.  You can contact KCAVP at (816) 561-0550 or check out KCAVP’s website at www.kcavp.org.

Please come out and enjoy the fellowship and let us welcome KCAVP  back to PFLAG/KC again. It is always good to hear them speak. It is such important work that they do.

From Our President

Dear PFLAG Family,

I would like to start out by reminding everyone to check our website pflagkc.org for any updates for our meeting, such as dates or cancellations or if you don’t receive the newsletter for whatever reason.  We are also approaching the time when the weather can turn suddenly.

For those of you who were unable to attend the September meeting, our scheduled speakers were not in attendance.  We hope to reschedule next spring.  We saw a wonderful movie called “Anyone and Everyone”.

September was to be the time for election of officers but because of low attendance, the election will take place at the October meeting.  See the slate of Officers and Directors elsewhere in the newsletter.  Members in good standing are eligible to vote.  As stated previously, if anyone is interested in assisting with a Board position as a Co-Director or assistant, I would encourage you to contact me or the specific Director.  Additional nominations will be accepted from the members in attendance at the general meeting.

October will bring representatives from Kansas City Anti Violence Project (KCAVP). November will bring representatives from MAFA (Midwest Alternative Families Alliance).  December will bring our annual holiday potluck lunch.  If you have an idea for a program or speaker, please contact any Board member.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the October meeting.

Thank you for all that you do within our organization and our community as a whole!

Randy
